Best Activities for Families

I’m regularly asked what kind of activities there are for families with children.  Here are a few ideas that our family of three young boys have enjoyed.

Coconut Plantation Ocean Pool- what better place to enjoy a day but at the pool.  The sandy section is shallow and perfect for young children. Bring your lunch and BBQ poolside.

Beach Lagoons- Protected from the ocean, the lagoons are calm and blue with wide sandy beaches.  Bring some chairs and an cooler down, and enjoy the action. Lagoon Two (Honu) is the least crowded and best for relaxing.

Polynesian Cultural Center- On the windward side of Oahu in La’ie, you can easily make a day of learning about seven different cultures in the south pacific, with hands on activities, a luau, and an evening show.

Laniakea Beach- Be sure to visit the north shore to see the famous Honu at "Turtle" Beach.  Green Sea Turtles in their environment await you. You can get up close to them and brave soles can even snorkle with them.  As they are protected, please stay back.  The beach address is:  83 Kamehameha Hwy, Haleiwa, HI  96712.  There's limited parking avaiable.

Dole Pineapple Plantation- Wander through the world’s largest maze, ride the Pineapple Express Train, and shop for all things pineapple in the store.  Located in Wahiawa.

Hawaiian Railway- Trains run Sunday afternoons, leaving from Ewa and running through Ko Olina to Kahe Point, just north of the Coconut Plantation.  Round trip trainride takes about 90 minutes, and there are picnic grounds and static train displays at the station. Yes, this is the same train that currently stops for Ice Cream at Two Scoops.

Sea Life Park Hawaii-  Sea lions, dolphins and penguins perform in entertaining and educational ways.  Located on Oahu's beautiful and scenic Makapuu Point, you can swim with dolphins, snorkel with rays, and meet a real life Wolphin (whale/dolphin hybrid).
